wings
« on: March 31, 2006, 09:00:53 AM »
I´m a little bit curius about those wings seled here: http://www.legoelektronik.se/se/produkter/vindkraft/vingar

well the webbpage is in swedish so I try to translate the serius parts of it to english, it says:  rotorblades of stringpoured(?) aluminium, length 1 to 3 meters, crossmesures 118 mm x 18 mm. the price is 565 swedish kronor per meter.

565 sek shoud be somwere about 50 usd per meter.

so what do you think about this? is it a nice price? is there a good shape blade?

thank´s

looks good and prob will work but if u can have it taper (lo angle at tip and hi angle at root )will be even better. is it rated for this aplcation cos aloy tends to get stress cracks bit easer ?

it looks like an aluminum extrusion. that seems like a lot of money per meter.

Yup I think that 'stringpoured' is a very descriptive way of saying extruded!

How resistant would this be to fracturing?

I'll need to clarify with my cousins in the "Old Country" to see of string-poured

may indicate "continous-casting" too.

If the stuff's not too hard it could be twisted if desired.

I also believe that with proper "damping" of unwanted vibrations and oscillations that

metal fatigue could be kept reasonably under control.

$50USD doesn't sound too bad if you are old and have arthritis either!

well looks like a little confusion about "stringpoured" wich came up with an autotranslater thats why i put the "?" so i try my self now, in swdish its speled strängsprutad and an direkt translation will give sträng=string and sprutad=sprayed so stringsprayed i think is the same as aluminum extrusion. as a little more input i was thinkig of useing them on a induction heating mill(modell putte), with gearing. output somwhere 2-4kw.

By chance, I happened upon this the other day: http://www.mtmscientific.com/airfoil.html

I think the product you found is the better deal

i agree the link you provided is for a solid extrusion , no strength , hollow is stronger, more rigid.

i just think your paying a real premium because it's for a prop. as opposed to a profile used for something more mundane . it all depends on volume i guess. but wouldn't ordinary aluminum extruded objects of a similar volume be cheaper by  a decimal place?
