Hollifield wind rotor.
« on: May 13, 2006, 05:16:12 PM »
Built this wind mill with some things I had at the house.  Blades are window blinds mounted to a aluminum octagon "total 2 foot diameter". This model has been flying for 6 months. Performs very well in low or high wind conditions.  Other than that its a Hugh Piggott design.  My plans are to fabracate rotor blades out of wood.  Using a table saw and sander would make  construction more simple and quicker.  Will post pic of new wind rotor when completed.

Quite interesting, nice job!   The offset would depict a furling system, does the tail pivot?   If so is it spring loaded?   It doesn't look like there is an angle incorporated into it for a gravity system.

I like it! very simple and durable looking.

Thanks for droppin by.  Yes the tail does furl. Just a little bit of angle on it, no spring.  Have more pics at www.spaces.msn.com/backyardh2man/

Love the hexagonal swastika blade mount.  Easy to get the angles right and very sturdy.

Looks good and simple.

I like the simple method of fixing the blades.

What are the specifications of the generator?

Here's it is made with wood.  Rotation is counterclockwise, so it will furl away from house. Diameter is 3.5 feet.  Will post more info when its up and flying
