Hugh Piggot's 8' (2.4m) turbine
« on: August 11, 2008, 09:55:09 PM »
For those of you that are running copies of the 2.4 metre turbine unit could you let me know what 'size' of amp meter you are using.

I have been looking at some 100 amp units that involve the use of a shunt.

For the information of all readers I am about to finish all the metal work fabrication for two units. I have also made the mould, the coil winder and the AC/DC rectifier box which are innovations over those published by Hugh. All being well I should be able to post a set of very interesting photographs by or before the end of August 2008.

100 amps might be a suitable size meter for a 12 volt system, yes.  The nominal output is only about 40 or 50 amps but it can certainly go higher at times, depending on a lot of factors.  It's always nice to have some 'headroom' although that does make the meter less accurate at low windspeeds.
