charge controller / dump unit question
« on: March 08, 2006, 01:00:08 AM »
hi all, (photo attached)

i have up and running one of those "cheap chinese" turbines. 12v 250 watt.

apart from the fact that i had to change the blades to "jerry blades" to make it a little less noisey. the unit is very good. (yes i have a homemade volvo mill that will go back up aswell)

ok the QUESTION.. is, has anyboy got one of these mills and is using the charge controller supplied. what i have noticed is that the unit once it hits cut in volts, it will divert to the resistive dump. if a little more wind pushes it harder it will then flip the dump of and start charging. and all is ok.

So why would it dump straight away on small winds/small current when it hots cut in.

i thought it would start charging, if only a few hundred mill amps, and then dump if the volts or amps get up to high (it does that anyway once volts or amps get up to high, 25 amps or more will make it dump)

any ideas?  at the momment i dont use the charge controller and just have 3 phase into two rectifier bridges then to batt bank.

pictures work best if they are around 300x400 anything bigger makes the screen

look too wide...makes it a little hard to scroll across the question...

good question my friend .i am looking forward to hearing someone who has the

answer you need...pickster

It sounds like the same unit these guys sell.

It's pictured on the front page, can't miss it.

Don't know whether you got it from them or not ( I seem to recall you're in Australia?).

Maybe contact them & ask their advice. If you can, speak to Graham.
