WIND CHARGE CONTROLLER [CLOSED]
« on: March 30, 2008, 04:47:44 AM »
Hello All. I am new to the board but have been reading for some time. I had to join today because I had to ask one simple question and that is; Can you use a 12 Volt voltage regulator from a car as a charge controller?

Thanks in advance.

UJW / James

i do believe that this exact thing is covered in the faqs.

ujw,

No. The regulator will slowly unload the wind generator once it reaches about 14V, causing the generator to overspeed and be destroyed. The regulator will probably also be destroyed

by the resulting unloaded high voltage from the generator.
