New solar project - fun photos
« on: July 13, 2011, 03:35:41 AM »
Even with the hole already augered nearly 5' deep it seemed like digging trenches, laying conduit, pulling cables, mixing concrete and setting this 6" x 12' pipe shouldn't take the rest of the day but .... it did and I still have some trenching and cable pulling to do. Of course being the hottest day of the year and doing this alone is no excuse but the unbreakable rock every foot digging the trench was brutal.

Any way, this will be a post mount expandable photo voltaic array. I saw the reflection of my 85' tower 16' turbine and post install in my solar hor air panels as an interesting photo. Building the racks, mount and installing the panels will be fun as well as wiring a controller and the control panel work.

I'll plan to follow up with the progress and will no doubt be asking for some suggestions from the solar experts out there. Having lots of fun.  Dave B.

Looking good so far, as for the trenching research tatp, if you are good with that sort of thing makes life so much easier, but even the smallest doughbt in your mind don't mess with it!

Good pick axe and a T-shirt soaked in water wrapped around the head will do nicely.

Nice panel post Dave,  seriously robust.
I sympathize with the rock thing, every time I do a trench around here, my wife gets another dozen or so for
her projects, and some have been seriously large.

looks great dave!

i feel for you on the rock issue with the trenching!  one of my least favorite things to do!  but, it is oddly satisfying when you're done to look back, at the finished hand dug trench.

have you already purchased the panels? or have a ball park on how many watts you're thinking about putting on it?

keep up the stellar work!

curious about how many (and size) panels you plan for that pole.  i am designing my setup now, and want to try to put (6) 30"x60" panels on one pole mount.  that's something like 75 sq ft and 200 pounds.  to me, it seems like i'd need a fair bigger concrete block than you have.

i actually have 10 panels total, but don't think i will attempt all 10 on one pole.
