Ouch just isn't fair at all.  Well like you said time to build another one.  I had a really nice wood she intill a 24inch round tree branch decided it didn't like it anymore.

Man that sux!  Glad your daughter wasn't hurt!  I know the feeling, I lost a tower and mill last summer when a guy line came loose in a major storm with 80+ mph gusts.

Sorry to see all the damage.
Whatever blew through your backyard yesterday must have traveled straight southeast and crashed into my house at about 4AM this morning.  We were having a nice warm chinook until this blast of cold north wind came.  Whenever the wind is strong enough to wake me up, it's time to trudge outside and shut the turbine down.  At least that's what I do... of course if the wind gust was really bad enough then by the time I get my boots on it would already be too late.
It's a beautiful hobby, but it can be so nasty too.
No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.

thanks for all the comments guys.......
and yes ...the shaft has a slight bend in it...it was a real hassle to get the rotor lose from it..i had all the set screws buried in
epoxy putty..took a sledge hammer to it !!   just have to turn down a new wood insert for it and buy a new 5/8s bolt for the
shaft..i have a 3 bladed rotor for it--made from plywood-just have to carve out some new blades..........
well later...mobile isp...wife shopping...................

Chuck the rotor in the drill press to true it up .  Probably didn't need the advice but

just a update...
built a three blader for my mill---not real good at angles so it took me awhile..end result turned out great..i maxed out the angle on my hub..should take right off in light winds..balanced the blades--few extra bolts in the hub was all it took to balance..
had to change out the 5/8s shaft as well...had to take a sledge hammer to it just to break the rotor loose..
the rotor is made out of 1/4" thick pipe with a wooden insert -with set screws..works out okay-like i said it took a sledge hammer
to get the old one loose-set screw buried in epoxy putty...
light wind came up yesterday and the mill took right off powering up my 12v. raditor fan..not full speed  but okay for
the speed of the wind...heres a pict....................hiker
