Hoping to have my 3 quotes in tomorrow...
« on: January 17, 2008, 09:14:10 PM »
Hi,

As part of an effort to reduce my business' carbon footprint, I'm effectively trying to take out the rest of my office's power consumption, down from 33kWh of grid power per day to zero or negative in electricity and carbon terms year-round...

I've received 2 of the 3 quotes I'm hoping for, and they are all coming in quite close to the benchmark £7/kWp for full purchase and install.  I'm badgering the 3rd guy to get his numbers to me tomorrow.

These three suppliers all seem pretty good so far, and look like they understand customer service.

I've had one semi-rude brush-off and a few non-responses from other suppliers, so I'm glad that I cast the net quite wide to start with.

PS. I also killed off one of my hosted Net servers in Asia, which will probably have a similar or greater effect in CO2 terms.

Sounds good if that price tag includes everything. (Inverter, mounting rails, wiring, meter, labor and such...) Not sure of the exchange rates, but it is nearly $14,000 U.S.

If you have morning fog, the West option seems best, especially if it is the "path of least resistance" with local government. Possibly down the road, policies may ease (a dream) and the East side could then be added to counter some home use during peak times.

Don't try to count heat in your calculations. The room/office being in the house is already heated....

Curiosity has the best of me. Have you gotten any output wattage wise from those China wind units?

As usual, interesting post! Hope things go smoothly if approved.  Gary D.

Thanks for your kind words.

Yes, I am omitting heating from my calculations, but the house is quite efficient and I keep my office cooler than much of the rest of the house.  I only recently turned on the radiator for the first time after about 3 years!

Difficult to tell how much the MotorWind is contributing to my off-grid system.  I think that it is cutting in (ie providing charge) in decent wind, but I've not yet seen an occasion when the MotorWind by itself seemed to be generating enough power to raise the battery voltage and take my laptop/server off-grid for example.  I continue to think that the MotorWind design is sound.

Hi,

I have my 3 quotes in, and they're all good!

Some weekend reading to compare them in detail, but I seem to have secured some decent discounts and what I asked for in all other regards too.
