I finally got pedgen going my way
« on: June 17, 2009, 10:02:30 PM »
Gives me 59.4 watts or as near as I can figure.

Had to switch to charging 24 volt batterys instead

of 12 volt....cut in speed was too low....had to

get pedaling faster before it cuts in and start

charging....Stall speed akin to windmills ...

right ?

BTW   CmeBREW  you have E-Mail !

Sounds Great Norm!

Now you can get more RE-Tv time and RE-weed wacking time.

Thats also about what I average now is 60-70 watts --because I kept getting lazier and lazier until now I sit in a very comfortable recliner chair while slowly pedaling only 32 rpm while watching movies on my small TV/dvd and drinking soda. I rarely actually 'Work out' anymore. Its like a George Kastanza workout.

I would like to find and purchase a nice, strong, reclining automobile (drivers side)  entire seat from a auto salvage yard for a good price and make the ped gen even better with more 'easy leverage'. I'm going to call around. Probably get one for $40 bucks. Later, I want to make a posting about my new set-up with videos.

After much experimenting, I like a nice, easy, slow, torqueful, 32 rpm pedaling the best.  The Ammeter goes up to around 150 watts (10-11amps) with the down push , and drops to 2 or 3 amps in a half second, then back to 150 Watts on the next down push.  Inotherwords, it is only torqueful on the slow down push cycle, then real easy until the next down push. It looks to me like an average of 60-70 watts- but its difficult to be precise without a Watthour meter.

Like you said yourself, after a few minutes, you don't even know you are doing it!

It is great for my ankles and knees especially.

Congrats on your weight loss and improved fitness!

P.S.  I hope David Butcher sees that you wrote, because his email never works for me.  I spent the last 3 weeks trying to contact him. I wish he would get more than one email and maybe hundreds of people (esp. school kids for calorie burning) would join that Virtual green Gym.  Sounds like a great idea, if people could email him.

I did finally get thru once, and he sent me the info to send back to him in order to join, such as Watt hour goals per month and a photo, etc. -- but I could never send the email back with the info!

I bet he gets endless junkmail is why nothing gets thru. I see he  does Hundreds of different things.

Thanks for the help Norm, and keep pedaling.

I think what is needed in a lot of cases is a

variable speed drive just an old ten speed, then

you select various speeds until you get the right speed for you in relation to the battery.

That's why I switched to 24 volt from 12 volt...

it cut in at too low of a speed....like you think you want....not for me. I'd rather pedal

2miles up a 2.5 % grade than 1 mile up a 5%

grade.

 Just my preference.....

gott a go.

Isn't it great when everything works right?

I sit up on my pedgen and everything just feels

perfect I'm pedaling just at the right pace for

me a nice steady 60 watts the ratio of 1:18 is

just perfectly matched to me and the Ametek....

if I increase my speed, right away I feel a

resistance even from 60 to 75rpm...I hope a lot

of you have experienced the same feeling !

   Have Fun  !

I'm glad it's working for you Norm, you've put a lot of time into it.

I can do about 40 watts sustained, 60 would wear me out quickly.

Keep doing the substained 40 watts or whatever

, and keep it up ....that's the main thing.

I've learned so much....even about the Ametek

, has more than I thought it had...just had to

find the right speed.

Thinking about broading the uses....fixing it

so I can do eliptical and arm power
