20 weeks, 5000 amp hrs, over 100kw hrs
« on: July 23, 2009, 12:17:11 PM »
Seeing as we have had next to no wind for a month - to the point I was going to get the batteries back to the garage to charge them - passing the 5000 amp/hrs into the battery bank is something of a milestone. Its a 24 volt system so thats something over 100kw hours or about 100 hours running the pool pump.

Not bad for a 10 footer :-)

It will have to come down before the windy season though for a check-over and rebalancing - got a bit of a shimmy!!

Historic data can be found on my web site here

If that link comes up with the weather station info instead, just click on "Wind Turbine" on the left side of the page (don't ask!!)

frackers;

Thanks for the share!

Those Amp Hours are where the rubber meets the road in this game.

Sure is satisfying, ain't it?

Our freshly reinstalled 10 footer [thanks to the Dans] has helped contribute to the 237 AH and 6.15 KWH of windpower gathered here this month [22 days]. The solar produced 2567.6AH and 66.77 KWH in the same time period.

The solar always gets about 10X more total but then it cost a whole lot more to put in.

If you were not hooked before, you are now.

Thanks again for the share. I like it when folks put up real world figures from their systems.

I swear, I will never figure out how to upload pictures here.

I have been manually recording output from my Watts Up meter for about a month now.  Can't wait for the windy season.  I had the turbine down for the last two weeks of June for some modifications.  I live in Mid-Lower Michigan.  Not a lot of wind this time of year.  Had a couple good days, hope to break that kilowatt mark soon.

I know it's a hard question to answer, but does it look like my numbers are in line with what should be expected out of a 10 footer?

Without knowing the wind speed and hence the power actually available in the wind its impossible to say. My expectation is that with a steady 30km/hr wind (just before furling) I'll see an average 500w coming down the tower. Since my tower is ony 12m high, the wind is not that steady so the turbulant nature of the wind will see instantaneous power levels from 100w up to 1500w.

So flat out I would expect about 12000 watt hours per day if the conditions are absolutely right.

Wow, if you are getting 12 kilowatts per day, you are smoking me.  I am not seeing that in a month.  The wind here is pretty calm most of the time around here in the summer.  Wait about a month or two, and things really pick up.  I am very new at this, but from what I have researched, I am in the ballpark on my production.  The bottom line is that when the wind does not blow hard, there is nothing to harvest.
