PV modules
« on: September 26, 2009, 04:09:13 PM »
Here is a picture of one of my PV modules. You can clearly see two diodes in the picture. Why is it two? Wouldn't one be enough.

I have 4 of these modules and I my plan is to connect them all in series and then to a MPPT. My question is if it's possible to remove the diodes from the two panels in the middle of the string and perhaps also remove one diode from each panel at the end.

They are bypass diodes, not blocking diodes.

It would be best to leave them in for high voltage MPPT array.

If for some reason half of a module is making less power than the others in the string, the power can bypass that half, and still charge the battery.
