Doing some numbers with Hydrogen production...
« on: June 18, 2008, 10:49:40 PM »
I've been messing with some numbers in making a HECE (Hydrogen Enhanced Combustion Engine) for gasoline/diesel engines. I want to make on the fly %75 normal-pressure gaseous hydrogen. The numbers look good, but I could have overlooked something. Please verify my results.

Thanx-

--------------------------------

All numbers by non-pressurized volume, Assuming 20mpg of gasoline, V6  @ 2000 rpm (33.34 rps) going 60mph

Where I got my energy density numbers for gasoline and hydrogen -

http://www.eoearth.org/article/Hydrogen_storage

  1. cc = 1 liter
  2. gallon of gasoline = 3.785liters or 3785cc
  3. liter of gasoline  = 32MJoules  = 5 miles/minutes traveled    = .003 liters/sec = 3cc/used per sec
  4. liter of hydrogen = 8MJoules  = 1.25 miles/minutes traveled = .013 liters/sec = 13cc/used per sec

--------------------------------

So according to this, I need to produce 13cc's of gaseous non-pressurized hydrogen per second to replace what I would normally use for gasoline. Are these figures correct or am I missing something, thanx-

Joe-

he said hydrogen and it is not an actual working project

It would be great if this board would allow for editing of posts that the user has created.

Here are the corrections for the original-uneditable post.

  1. cc = 1 liter
  2. gallon of gasoline = 3.785liters or 3785cc
  3. liter of gasoline  = 32MJoules  = 5 miles/minutes traveled    = .003 liters/sec = 3cc/used per sec
  4. liter of hydrogen = 8MJoules  = 1.25 miles/minutes traveled = .013 liters/sec = 13cc/used per sec
