Gentlemen,

FYI. Around here there are so many hydro electric dams that commercial power workers are referenced as hydro workers.

Hydro One worker killed after plunge from tower

Neco Cockburn, The Ottawa Citizen

Published: Friday, May 30, 2008

OTTAWA - Police and Ministry of Labour officials are investigating after a Hydro One worker was killed after plunging 30 metres from a hydro tower in Cumberland Friday. Ottawa paramedics said the 55-year-old man was assembling a hydro tower on the north side of Wilhaven Drive, between O'Toole and Quigley Hill Roads, when he fell at about 3:30 p.m. Three of his co-workers witnessed the fall and performed CPR on the injured man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. It's believed he suffered massive head injuries. Two hydro towers, part of two parallel sets of power lines, are stationed at the site. The hydro tower closest to Quigley Hill Road, which the victim was working on, does not yet have power lines attached.

Ottawa police Sgt. Paul McIntyre was the officer-in-charge at the scene Friday afternoon. He said both a supervisor and a crane operator were on-site at the time of the incident. Sgt. McIntyre would not say if the worker was wearing a safety harness, only that the incident remained under investigation. In addition to Ottawa police and Hydro One staff, two occupational health and safety investigators from the Ministry of Labour were on-site late Friday, with a third expected to arrive later in the evening. Ottawa paramedics left the scene around 5:30 p.m. The victim's body lay close to the tower, covered by a white sheet.
