90 volt treadmill motor
« on: April 26, 2005, 01:16:30 AM »
I found a treadmill today down the street that said free so i brought it home .  It was Sold by sears and called a crosswalk. it has a 90 volt pm motor made by united technologies automotive. I  unscrewed the flywheel chucked it up with a 17 mm collet in the mill. I  had  to turn turned it  770 rpm to get 13.63 dc volts and put out 13 amps at that rpm. It has a neat base and everything and weighs less than 10 pounds. I thought that was quite good albeit a little high rpm and brushes. Im thinking maybe a 5 foot diameter  blade should be sufficient??? . JB

Keep the blades small 4foot. No more than 3. It will go faster. Don't expect much untill the wind really blows.

I messed up on my rpms and current on this motor when I posted this sometime back. Through the blocking diode and into a battery i have to spin it at about 1000 rpm to get charging voltage. I had it hooked to my lathe thru the diode and meters, 30 foot of  wire to represent tower heighth and   into a  charged 12 volt car battery. I looked at the back of it where the 2 brushes are and it looks like it can accomadate a total of 4 brushes. can i put 2 more brushes in it and bring the cut in voltage down to about 500 rpm. Thanks JB
