Advice please
« on: July 28, 2007, 10:17:19 PM »
I want to build my own battery controller from scratch.  I'm an electrical engineer and design circuits for a living, including buck/boost power supplies.  I'm also just starting to put together my first axial flux windmill - 15', 2kW or so. None of the battery controllers out there seem to have the features necessary to do what is necessary to manage both the mill and the batteries (lead acid).

Since I have no experience, I hope all of you out there who have done this can give me some pointers as to which features I should include in the design. Once it is done and proved to work, I'll be happy to share the design with everyone who helped.

Thanks,

Mike Harvey

If what you are attempting to build is a "Load-Diversion/Charge-Controller", I have built this one.  It's probably the simplest, low cost, and reliable/stable little charge controller that can dump any amount of power by sizing the relay/switching stage appropriately.  http://www.fieldlines.com/comments/2006/10/3/215354/941/4#4

Cheers!
