3 phase rectifier price range
« on: January 12, 2008, 06:03:07 PM »
This 3 phase rectifier on ebay has a starting bid of $49.95

Is it my imagination or are they a little too proud of it?

That link fought against viewing on my machine...

http://search.ebay.com/350014401049

For a new component with 800 Volt 150 amp rating that about average on ebay...

Pulls from end-of-life industrial processes or assembly line controllers, etc. are much more affordable unless there is a bidding war - but new means no mystery about it ever being abused before and commands about 2x the price, at least on high current devices...

You guys have it too easy over there.

That puppy would start at $100 surplus here in Oz.

It'd be $200-$300 new from supplier, AND we would

pay even more to get it shipped over!

That is outrageous

for three HV diodes in one package? Better off just building our own. Now, I think I asked this already and pardon me for sitting here and not just going out to the shop and looking, but don't microwave ovens have big HV diodes on the magnetron circuit?

They are high voltage but only around 1A current capacity as far as I remember.

Another way to make a nice rectifier is to use stud diodes, google search the board for more information.

You are right, I first went to a supplier I used before MCM electronics but they don't list many diodes like I have in stock. A more general Google search found this. Note these are all higher voltage than we want with lower amperage rating (less than an ampere.)

Brian;

Don't forget Automotive / Truck Alternators all have a 3 phase rectifier in them.

Might raid the local auto wrecker and snag a good few. Give them good heat sinking as they are used to lots of air over them.

More than one way to rectify a sine wave.

Cheers.
