Rutland 913 stripped down - bearing replacement video.

Marlec the U.K manufacturers of the famous Rutland range of marine turbines have posted a video on Youtube demonstrating the bearing replacement procedure of the 913 model.
Very interesting to see the inner workings of it, I've never seen anything like it.

It appears to be a dual rotor ceramic magnet arrangment, I wonder why they never explored neo magnets? - cheaper maybe.
Also looks like the stator has overlapping coils - I could be mistaken.

Maybe the secret's out where all this home brew axial idea came from. I know Hugh has mentioned many times about the Rutland machine and I have never seen the guts of one before. Great video, thanks for posting.  Dave B.

The design has changed very little from the first machine. It is now 3 phase and the blades are faster and more aerodynamic but the basic concept with the loudspeaker ferrite ring magnets has not changed. It was a brilliant idea and I suspect it was selling so well that there was no real need to change it drastically with neo magnets. Even if there were thoughts of changing they probably won't do it now with the cost of neo rising.

It doesn't have the high output in gales that some of the competitors have, but it produces most of the time when many similar sized machines are stationary. I am not sure if it has overlapped coils or not, I haven't dismantled a 3 phase version. I suspect not as the stator has to be fairly thin..

it looks as if it does have overlapping coils. if you look at 8 minutes 28 seconds into the video you can see the coils do look overlapped. thanks for posting nice to see how the professionals do it.

A wining design, clearly no need to change it, however.

They have recently updated the styling with the new 914i with MPPT control - 30% increase in power apparantly???
