WePower VAWT
« on: June 23, 2012, 05:04:36 PM »
Just got a sales flyer from some stock picking newsletter. It mentioned a company called WePower. I searched that on the internet and it is a company that makes VAWT wind turbines. They have pictures of 2 of them mounted on a Best Buy store in Minnesota. Anyone heard anything about them? Best Buy might market them? Like I say, just wondering if any one knows anything about them.

Well, Their turbines are rated at 29mph.  The 600 watt turbine in a Class 3 wind area (12 to 15 mph average wind speed) would produce according to their power curve approximately 150 watts. You would be much better off spending the money on solar I imagine.

i think 150 watts at 15mph is very optimistic

if it is rated 600watts at 29mph, then according to the cube law
half speed of  14.5mph would net 1/8 of rated power or maybe 75watts?

is my math right? its been a while.

if i am right, low wind area's of half that or about 7.25mph would net at most 1/8  of 75 watts, or what? maybe 8 or 9 watts?

at some point a hamster wheel is a better bet in my opinion. ;)

there really needs to be some sort of rating authority to provide some truth in advertizing.

Just another scam for people who don't know anything about wind power, spend the same amount on solar and you'll actually make electricity that will charge a battery more than twice a year.
I aint skeerd of nuthin.......Holy Crap! What was that!!!!!

A fellow here dropped around 30,000 on one back in 2010, It took him a couple years to realize he wasn't making any power with the thing. His best month was 100 KWHR.  ???  166 year payback, if our government hadn't gotten involved and given him tax breaks.  Might be down to a 50-60 year payback with those.  :o

Here's the story that I started on it back in 2010.
