Does anyone think an old 32-Volt DC motor would be of interest in a DIY project?
There's a member on a different forum asking for any takers of a 32 volt, 30 Amp (1HP) DC motor. It made me wonder if anybody on Fieldlines is looking for 32V equipment to restore or fit into an old 32V system they may have. I have no association with the other member, except being a long-time member of that forum, like him.
I've already determined that it won't work very well for a wind turbine, because it weighs 140 pounds, and its rated power is at 1250 RPM, so de-rating it to be a 12V generator would leave it somewhere around 400 RPM, but at that would only provide about 20-30 amps. I don't think anybody would want to hoist up that much weight for 300 Watts.
Would it be of any use in, say a hydro outfit, to charge a 24V battery bank? A medium-head, medium flow water plant would probably want to run at about 1200-1300 RPM, like this motor, wouldn't it?
