well the old guy should have sought some help before his electric bill was over $1000 there are programs available to help seniors and disabled people with there utility bills he would have just had to apply for them..... there are senior advocates that specialize in hooking up seniors with these services in most cities. obviously the guy just ignored the bills and expected them to go away. even after his power was cut he chose to stay there and freeze to death instead of seeking help at that point.
if you are not willing to be active participant in your survival then don't expect me to feel sorry for you when you end up dead. in my opinion the guy basically committed suicide by exposure through his inaction on his part to do anything to better his situation.
