New blades arrived.
« on: August 22, 2009, 03:00:48 PM »
My cabinet builder stoped by the other night. He brought me the carved Hugh Piggot four foot diameter blades.

These are built to Hughs specs from his book. They are way more accurate then the blades I built in haste.

I will be testing these blades in the tunnel and truck mounted on Hughs 4ft alternator. I'll report my findings.

I have not assembled the blade set yet. I thought I'd show them here and now. See what you think for correctness?

He built them from laminated wood sections. I'll use Hughs suggested 10" diameter 1/2" thick support to hold them togerther. No blade explosions this time.

Here are pictures from several angles. I think the are awsome. Hopefully just what the wind doctor (Hugh) ordered?

This last picture is the back side.

The testing continues. Let me know what you think?

Thanks for the kind words guys. It will be a week or so befor I'll have any time to test these blades.

Today I was up on the roof of my house. Trying to get the new roof on befor the big NW rains return.

Speaking of testing blade. I've been sent a set of TLG  Boast Busters from a fellow board member to test.

He wants them tested on a GE-ECM. I'll also be testing them on the Hornet.

I'll be doing both tunnel and truck testing.

Well its late, gota rest up for more roof duty tommorow.

Yes those look like my interpretation of the 4 ft blades. Be interesting to see how they compare. I wouldn't really expect a great difference from your attempt unless you got the tip angle wrong. I couldn't really see where you went wrong but the trailing edge was significantly different.

It's good to see someone else's work who (hopefully) knows better what they're doing than I do. There are very few pictures of these completed 4 footer blades that I could find.

Mine aren't nearly as good looking but I was mostly just messing around to get some experience woodworking. Although it gives me some assurance too that mine aren't THAT far off.

I'll be interested to see the result. Keep up the good work.
