Gluing magnets
« on: June 29, 2003, 10:12:19 PM »
Well I finally got the magnet(s) glued back in that starter motor on the Ariens...and what a comedy of errors! Things I should have done and things I shouldn't have done...(1) I should have checked and marked which way the unglued magnet was in before I glued it back in...(2) When I discovered the magnet was in wrong I shouldn't have thought that the other magnet would be easier to get out and glue in the other way.(3) I shouldn't have tried to get it out by gently tapping on the outside of the case.because (hmmm! the magnet that I had just recently glued in ...cracked) To all newbees: On a 2 pole PM motor ...stick a rectangular magnet inside the motor and you'll probably observe that one pole attracts the magnet and the other pole repels... fixing this motor and getting it working just like new in spite of all this was the most fun I've had since last week ...well anyway it was a great learning experience!Norm.
