Checking out models of restricted size windmill
« on: November 03, 2004, 10:14:17 AM »
As I will not be permitted to more than two meter radius of the windturbin, the first step is to find a design to make the best output.

As I know for the time is it cant be the  usual vertical propeller.

A diameter of  2 meters in a vertical design, can be built high,  and I am for the moment busy with finding out how the hight of a 2-meter at the rotating axes

can get  better output. It is a diffucult task since trial and error is not possible to test all, some theoretical models had to examinated, and some reference object to be  checked.

Vertical design is not used in my area. I do not think it depends of lack of perforance, it is probably due to knowhow from areoplanes the horizontal mill is so more common. A vertical, if it can fulfill its purpose, should be cheaper to make, as all load comes to the  ground. I will come back with my thoughts as the process goes.

Dunno about Darrius, but I am pretty sure that Sandia found 4:1 (H:W) aspect ratio close to ideal for Savonius types.
