I aquiered the F&P from our good freind Tom W. Thanks Tom.
The F&P has 42 poles. I wiered the 2 coils directly accross from each other in siries. This means that if you spinn the rotor a a specific speed and you get 5 volts from one coil when you add these 2 coils togeter in siries you get 10 volt. They must be wired corectly or you get 0 volts.
The reason I chose to do the coils directly accross from each other is these 2 and these 2 only can either be 0 or 180 degrees phase or exactly in phase or 180 out of phase with each other.
If you choose a coil not directly accross you'll never get and exact phase relationship.
This means there can be 21 coil groups or phases. So this alt becomes 21 phases.
This requiers 42 doides. The alt is wired star. This then gives an each phase voltage potential of 10v. However star is a siries coinection of coils. this then geve a voltage of 20v.
Some would say that 42 diodes would equal a voltage drop of .5 v per diode X 42 = 21 volts. But it does not work that way.
If you perelell diodes the voltage drop remains at .5v. If you siries diodes voltage dropo adds per diode. All 42 diodes ar basicly in perelell. Or 2 groups of 21 diodes or the same as any muli phase alt.
The diodes i've used are 6 amp plastic body 400v prv. They are very cheap.
6 amps X 42= 252 amps x 15 volts= 3780 watts. During the 1000 watt wind test the littel diodes didn't even warm up.
The benifit to this mod I belive is and I think. The original 42 coils are wire 3 phase. I think there are 3 sets of 14 coils that are wiered in star? This would make for 28 coils wired in siries.
This is a way miss match to what we want from this motor Now become wid generator.
The stock coil arangement would be better suited for higher voltage fewer amps.
I don't feel the stock coil arangement is suited for 12 volt use.
I did not round off or modify the laminations. My hope was to build a blade that will overcome the startup cogging isues and there by save that littel extra power that would be lost in decogging.
My uncompleted foam blades are my idea. However they are way off from being done. Life is just way to busy.
Now if all goes well some pix. First a template to know were to place the diodes.

Pc board befor drill.
Ok go to next post.
