Somebody told me today to go check pawn shops for tools in February. All the unemployed construction workers will have been out of work for two months and their tools will have made it to the floor. So I'm looking for a cheap nail gun or 18V drill or something and I spot this 4500W Onan commercial generator. Says $995 on it. 265 hrs on the meter and looks like it, pretty clean little unit, set up for LP gas, with a metal base somebody welded up for it. Oil changes are supposed to happen every 150 hrs so if it gives you an idea of how new it is, it's still on it's second oil change. Looks just like
this one.
So the pawn shop guy tells me he'll let me have it for $800 out the door and I just couldn't resist. Took it home and quickly hooked it up to a BBQ bottle and old car battery and it runs great and makes 120 and 240V just like it should. Haven't load tested it yet and I'd like to find some manuals but I really like the thing. It's a 1800 rpm unit and is quieter than my 5HP air compressor. There's supposed to be a pigtail I can buy so the inverter will start the thing when the batteries get low. It's funny the things you can get if you just keep looking for them and don't need them right now.
