New digital counter
« on: April 22, 2005, 03:39:37 PM »
I finally ran across a real $1 digital counter

(a pedometer) only 2 functions ...it counts and

you can reset it.

It has a button battery that's supposed to last

for 24 months if it counts to 99,999 daily.

The part I like the best is it stays on continually..

don't have to worry about it shutting off.

Here's what they look like in the package.

It's about the easiest yet to wire up to a

magnetic reed switch.

Take the back cover off ....only 2 screws,

hook a wire from the MRS to (1)and the other wire

to (2), on (1)loosen the screw and slip the bare

ended lead under the contact clip and tighten,

at (2) even if you didn't know how to solder or

lack the tool you could wrap the bare ended other lead about 3 times around that spring wire

that is soldered there that leads up to the

pendulem weight arm.....take a nailfile on the edge of the back cover to run your wires out...

it's just that easy!

A magnet on whatever you want to count and the magnetic reed switch placed nearby to pick up the magnetic pulses and if it's on a coil winder...you can take long breaks without it automatically shutting off...it'll keep track,

unless someone resets it.

So enjoy the new digital counter!

Oh! Yeah BTW ...they sell them at

The DollarTree .

That could be an easy coil winder counter too!

Yes it would be....its so simple to hook a

magnetic reed switch up to it...anyone can see

where it is to be hooked up....the only excuse

anyone could possibly have is not being near a

DollarTree store....and for the cost of postage

and the pedometer that could even be arranged.

....Or Wondermagnet could get some of these or

similar...along with the magnetic reed switches.

Sure would be a handy thing for all these coil

winders among other things!

Now why didn't I think of that

I've had a pedometer for a while now. Got it free at McDonalds with a chef salad not long after the movie "Supersize Me" came out.

Not that I want to promote McDonalds in any way, my New Years resolution was no McDonalds and no WalMart. It's probably been the easiest to keep resolution I've ever made.

Good thing in a way ...I go to Walmarts for

just such things as pedometers ($3.82) then go to

The Dollar Tree and get one for $1 ...you don't

need all those extra functions....

BTW does your pedometer stay on?

Then there is the long phone extension cords

that you can get at Walmarts for close to $5 or

you can go to D&K and get one for $.49 !  (I use

the color coded wire for little electronic

projects like this....or you can go to RadioShak

...etc.)

Resolutions are easy to keep as soon as you

realize the truth...that you aren't alone.

You don't even have to wait for New Years

Took me almost 45 years to realize that and

stop smoking and IT was the easiest thing I ever

did !

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

You're welcome...just finished hooking up my

second one...drilled two small holes up near the

top left-hand corner just large enough for the two wires...hooked one onto each place....then a

dab of crazy glue at the holes and I was done...

about 5 minutes of work...course I inadverdantly

destroyed the fine wire spring...all thumbs

it'll never work as a pedometer again...

                 Fun!

I went straight to my local Dollar tree store as soon as I saw your post. They were sold out. Darn it, oh well over to Wallmart to see if they have them if not Shopko does for $9.95 each. RobC

RobC ....Oh No! Not Wallmart they have them

for $3.82 and I'm not sure they count by one or if they stay on

Isn't there more than one DollarTree store

where you're at?

E-mail me your address and I'll send you one for $1 plus postage.

Unless our store has run out too...they had

about 50 or so a couple of days ago...be just

like a bunch of people to buy them to use for

PEDOMETERS!!??

Well if I can be of any help just let

  me know!

   Thanks Ghurd...they've got about 25 left...got

a half-dozen for now...thanks for the offer,

another amazing deal there they have these

replacement wheels for these glide scooters

they're like roller blade wheels but about 4 inches

dia. 2 in a package for $1 they've got those

rollerblade bearings 2 per wheel ,,,the bearings

are nice for small windmill projects...or maybe

the whole wheel...so I figured $.25 a bearing

...not too bad.

Okay I guess that's it for now.

               Fun! ( :>) Norm.

I knew I should have stopped at the dollar store today. Makes me want to go back to town but since the idea is to save energy and make my own I guess I will keep an eye open for them.

Nice counter idea!
