New Baldor Jenny
« on: August 03, 2005, 10:34:19 PM »

Hello my friends.  I found a sort of different way of A/C motor conversion. This one is a Baldor 208/230--460 volt 6.8 amp 1725rpm 4 pole....The windings were left stock and I used a piece of square steel tubing for the rotor, welded washers on the ends to hold the allThread.I got luckey and found a piece of tubing just right no machining.I took the end cap off another motor, that way both bearings are the same size.Using four of the 2x 1x 1/2 neo mags from wonder mag..Its got a 60 tooth sprocket on the prop driver hub, and a 12 tooth sprocket on the motor shaft. It has a 6 blade prop 5' dia..Had a temporary puff of wind about 10/15mph.It put 35vdc into a 8.5 ohm resistor about 4amps.That might not sound like much but its a big improvment for me.Hurray for the wild bunch.  MelTx

looks cool MELTX...

heres a shot of my little mill--powered by 8 LOWES ceramics...

lights up a 110v 60watt light bulb at medium speed on the drill..

i tried a v belt at first--but there was to much drag for my small props..

chain  drive works better--more noise thou..

well time to drive down to the  coast and see what the wind can do....

later..........

Thanks all.. Hiker is that a bibycle sprocket hub your using ? I tried drilling a larger hole thru one to put the allthread thru, and my drillbit just melted...That bike hub is some hard matieral...What do you use for drilling a carbide bit? A lot of the scrap yard parts have metric bearings but I have not been able to find metric allthread around here.Do any of the chain stores have it.Dont want to special order any, it would cost more than my old pickup is worth.     MelTx

Dont know the M.P.B. he will get.My recalcitrant friend has not divulged his nutritional requirements yet...Just some wishful thinking. wanting to go prospecting again this fall. This time take transportation along that can go where no man has gone before....Thats how I got started making generators.Trying to find a way to take a little electricty with me,with-out draging along a 80,000 pound gas-gen...People say why dont you just use one shot batterys..They just dont understand all the fun you have making your own generator..MelTx

yep its a bike sprocket-both of them--the top one i ground down some whashers.to size.

the bottom one had a larger hole then 5/8s so i just centered it and used a big lock whasher to keep it in place..works fine .that little motor is made in italy--not a whole lot of amps but big volts-200 open volts when drill is maxed out.

granpaw--who said that--does that mean im getting old or what--heres my little back up buddy--hes a great kid--dont mind at all being called gramps by him-all 4 months of him...yep hes my first gran child............later.

meltx..

for even less friction--you can grind off every other tooth on the big sprocket..

did that with mine --and it spins up a bit faster now..no picture of it yet..

its true-- theres nothin better than getting out in the  back woods.........

update--:{

took the mill down to the coast for  a test..

really sucks as a 12v mill--loads way up and stalls..

as a 110v mill -it works to some extent..but needs fairly high winds to get there..

most likly could rewire the mill with  thicker wire for 12v operation..

right now the thinner wire really can:t make much power at 12v..

sound like a winter project....later.
