scr latch
« on: January 22, 2006, 05:36:59 PM »

i made 2 o0f those last night while i was partying with my friends, i honestly didnt think they would work but they did when i got up the smorning, my idea was to take the impossibly low night time voltages from my solars and have them charge a cap from this schematic and insted of the motor being there have it charge my batteries whenever it latches, anyone else have a better idea to do this/some tips on how to go about it ill b posting all of my new experiments here!

Not sure what it is you are going to do.  The circuit just keeps the electricity from going to the motor until the voltage has built up a bit, then releases it all at once.  It does not amplify or increase the voltage.

I think the idea is that in twilight there will be too little current to get the voltage up from the cells with a load like a battery connected so it slowly charges the capacitors until their voltage reaches the trigger point and then dumps them at significant current levels into the battery.

Unfortunately right after a trigger, the caps are going to look just like a battery since they'll be at the same voltage so I don't think this will actually gain anything except may some pulse charging benefits.

Would work for low power but not low volt, I think. I don't think the caps will build volts. You need to configure the right resistor on the collector of the  3906 so it doesn't fire until you have over battery voltage. Similar to the old battery charging from antenna set-ups from the depression era, but they had high voltage low power. They would charge a cap and when it was high enough would jump a spark gap through the battery for a pulse charge. Or stepped down through a Model A coil. I think to harvest the low volts you would need a way to step them up before accumulating. How about a BIG switch panel to change your parallel connections to series for the night?

ok @ least you guys know i want to make a capacitor that does yes pulse charge from almost no voltage haha. is that thing about the depression true?
