Stirling Heat Engine
« on: April 04, 2006, 07:29:38 AM »
I built this Stirling Engine from an old vcr head assembly, and a few other parts. It worked even better than I thought it would.BR>

Here placed on my gas stove, over 2 quarts of boiling water, it achieved 300 rpms. and ran for 3 hours after the gas was shut off.

A close up of the power piston. Made from a Ford ERG valve.

I'm very impressed.

Great work!

By the way what is a "ERG valve" I don't have a thourough

knowledge of auto parts.thx

Makes me want to make one too.Though I realise I won't

get close to your perfection.

cheers,

It may be "EGR" valve. - But - does your ISP not allow you to use a search engine?

Hi WXYZCIENCE

Very nice job, do you have a plan for the sterling engine, I would like to build one like yours.

Thanks

The valve is an Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, it is used to lower the combustion temperature by allowing some of the exhaust gasses into the intake to reduce the oxides of nitrogen emmissions from the engine.

Very nice indeed. one question, with it going so fast what if any amount of force would it take to stop it from turning? Can you simply put your finger on it and stop it or is there some decent torque coming along with the RPMs?

Bruce S

PS Plans would indeed be cool:--))

This Engine is running on a modest 1/500th of a horse power, estimated of course.

Very nice

workmanship looks very pro

Being that I'm not up to spped on

"Stirling Engine"

tecnology

and I can't tell from the first picture,

may I ask about the conection of the

rod from the "EGR" to the flywheel

or prop?

Is it like in an engine, con rod to crank?

The picture makes it look like not a off-set

crank type set-up?

Anyway looks great

very high craftmanship !!!

:)

I don't know if this is the name for this part, so I got a picture of it, let the 1000 words I don't have to post tell you what it is.

I build one last year and looks very scary but works. I really like yours and any chance you could make intructions on how to build one like yours. Would love one.
