tail mounted anemometer
« on: April 05, 2006, 05:56:47 PM »
it's just a 20" piece of pvc.

0mph

5mph

10mph

20mph

and 30 is that top line @ the point of the tail.

i think if i cut the lines,

or every other triangle.

it will be easer to see from the ground.

i've played with a wind switch to bypass the diodes.

but it just started to turn backwards.

and draw alot.

if you can aford it gat a mppt controler.

it starts charging @ about 5mph.

unsted of 10 with shotsky.

or 13 with diodes.

Hi george.

How did you calibrate the MPH for accuracy?

George-

"a wind switch to bypass the diodes"

NOT what I have in mind

More of a switch to activate

a relay to close, to short and stop.

with a manual reset.

Being that I don't use the power,

just to play with for now, lighting

12 VDC trailer lights, testing blades ect.

So I would be loosing nothing if it gets tripped,

but I may be saving blades ect.

I have a mercury switch, from an outboard motor

that I will be using for this to send the signal

to the relay to stop the mill in the high winds we get here sometimes.

But I still like your version of a wind speed gauge

And will copy it a bit to make simular gauge/switch combo.

:)

i had the same setup but with a level on top of dummy tail,

 10' pipe @ right angle,

to get away from tuck wash

& a ruler hot glued on the bottom of dummy tail to get the angles...

should have taken pics but, had to much to do.

hanging out my brothers truck tring to hold on to it all..

that was fun.

there's a nice paved road out in b*f{d no where.

you have to go about 10 miles on gravel to get there.

i didn't count for the genny, prop or mast wash,

but i think it's close enough.

closer than what i had before.

no digial stuff here,

to get wiped out by sun spots.

i though about furling & played with a wind switch brake to.

the wind switch i used was a hunk of pvc mounted on a micro switch.

a gaterade bottle to keep the water out.

calabrated @ 50mph the same way.

after the year before last & 70 mph @ the weather station

"where ever that's @"

but now we just make more hot water.

copy all you want that's what this site is about.

i still have my old wind switch & tail if you want a pic.

o.k. o.k.

"just to play with for now"

HOOK IT UP!!!

RUN IT...

lower bills,

more money for you...
