Slow running Generator Engine
« on: June 20, 2006, 03:50:34 AM »
I was thinking of getting one of these built to run a small standby generator, because they are a nice slow running diesel.  http://www.bath.ac.uk/~ccsshb/12cyl/   Scroll down to see the pictures its impressive.

look at the balancing holes and counterweight on the crank pulley. simply amazing.

other pages i have read on these things state that they are the most efficient ICE's in the world, something like 80%, while running on the worst grade of crude fuel imaginable.

hmmm      108,920 hp at 102 rpm, rekon Dan B could build a PMG for that then?  Thats some engine 50% is a big figure aswell, I just cant hget over how big that engine is tho, i reckon 50% eff in a car would be nice in a car.

I like the ladder that goes down into the crankcase on every cylinder. And the stroke is over 8 feet! I wonder how much oil it holds? Need an overhead crane just to pull the dipstick out!Oops down about a 100 gals, better add some!
