2nd generation turbine
« on: July 04, 2006, 11:31:22 PM »
Here is my first effort, which worked very well up until one of the magnets worked it's way outward a bit and started rubbing on one of the stator bolts.

It was a good machine, the most I saw it put out was about 75 amps. After the next one is finished I'm going to re-work the original and put it back in service, after all,two is better than one if you can get away with it!The second version is still based on a Volvo strut as I bought a pair and wasn't going to waste a good hunk of pipe and spindle. For this one I added lots of gussets and much thicker stator mounts,as well as a huge 1" tail pivot made of something resembling titanium.I will also be using all stainless hardware this time, something I thought about the first time but didn't do due to cost.

And finally, just in case the wind don't blow and the sun don't shine,I got one of these which I'm hoping to mate to a 1.6 VW diesel running at least part of the time on home brewed biodiesel.Magnet rotors are next. Now if I could only find some extra time............

Hi

The 1.6 will run nice on bio fuel. If its turbo-d you can use the addittion of an extra oil filter to the turbo and use the oil cooler to preheat the fuel before the fuel filter. The pre-combustion chamber of the 1.6 engine improves the performance of bio-fuel. Watch the precentage of methanol or alcohol in the bio-fuel. The aluminum injector pump will deteriorate when in contact with high percent of either in the fuel.WLC

Uhh, can you beam me up to where you are?? There's not enough intelligent life down here.

And are you trying to power the whole town with that generator the kid is sitting on??

The best way to "kill time" is to work it to death!

It looks huge but it's only 10 kw.I can live comfortably on about 2,the other 8 is for my wife, who is slowly coming around.I'm getting her a Kill-A- Watt for our anniversary which will hopefully help in my quest.

Here is one of the new rotors, complete with a nice 1/2" stainless band welded around the outside.Hopefully this will keep the magnets in their place. Thanks again to Doug's Dad who welded these up for me.

I was expecting transparent aluminum , or is that what the stator will be??

I tend to agree with the still for the mullberries .

Here is a fuzzy photo of a freshly cast rotor using West System epoxy-much better than polyester resin by far.I used the slow-cure hardener to avoid any possible shrinkage which I don't think is an issue anyway with epoxy.
