Deal Time!
« on: July 24, 2006, 02:02:45 PM »
Hello All,

I have  found a really good deal on Kubota diesel engines that I thought I would pass on for your consideration. I am NOT the seller of these, but I can say this model is a sweet little engine! I paid $1549 for a new one in 2000.

I have one of this type and model engines and I'm here to say they work great. Mine had issues and I allowed a non-Kubota mechanic rebuild it. (my fault it needed rebuilding) Mistake! It never was right again. The engine used very little fuel, maybe around a pint per hour pulling an AC generator head and or that 100 amp alternator. I'm seriously considering using bio oil this time around. I'm very tired of buying gasoline for the Honda. I am hyped! My setup depended on that Kubota too much then, and now it will be the standby it should have been all along, instead of the prime mover it was.

These are NOT rated at 6HP. Actually these will pull about 4.5HP and surge to 5HP.

I'm driving there tomorrow to get one and will report back upon return home. In the mean time those of you interested may see what I'm talking about here:

RogerAS;

  Where are you located in that you can do like I do and drive to the Ozarks and back in a day?

I'm looking more at the Kubota diesel twin V that is connected to a E-tek 5.5kw.

Good price and is B-20 cleared according to the Alt-fuels people of MO.

Bruce,

I'm so close I can drive to the end of my road. :-) I live in Stone Co, AR east of Mountain View about 14 miles. If you're into it Terraserver search "Davis Mountain" and look about 1 mile east of the county road on the south side of the hill.

Yep, one of those eteks would be SWEET indeed! The price on those is crazy, but I suppose you get what you pay for.

Roger;

   These do look nice, the gov, doesn't skimp on the power so they're gonna be loud.

With this unit, you should be able to make use of waste water heating as well.

Careful of the pressureized cooling system, if these are still the ones they used back in the '70s the pressure is up around 22lbs and the caps always had dry-rot problems when we serviced them. That of course was back when real rubber was used not the great ploymers they have nowadays.

The glow plug can give you problems as well, and watch the polarity of them, the 21/2 tons where positive ground!! while the 5tonners where normal neg ground.

Would like to know if these are alumimimum with cast iron sleeved or solid iron.

The E-bay weights indicate they may be Al with sleeves.

Mountian View -wow, spent many a summer around bull shoals back in 6th/7th grade.

Wife's family had 100 acre farm, I know a small one :--), over in pocahontas until just a few years back.

Wonderfully quite place back then, lots of Kudzu too...

let me know how those work out.

Those folks had alot of small diesels near me a while back, blower units to pre-heat aircraft turbines here in minnesota - I'm not finding the hydraulic power units these came out of but there is a lot if you take the time to look, only catch is the ebay seller has 'refurbished' them while the Gov't auctions are 'as-is'...

Anyhow - alot of similar items out there, sometimes for $10 or $50.

Hi All,

Well I drove up and bought one! Great deal if you ask me.

The man, Craig Wiles, has SEVERAL of these. They are the Kubota 300 Aluminum block iron liner. I'd say very low hours by appearance. I will update by weekend as to running condition. Craig runs his on VO with a 2 tank system which I might copy.

I have a custom exhaust already so noise isn't an issue, I won't be using the stock exhaust, fuel tank or much else except the bare engine. Mine has a hydro pump which will come off, but would make a great little log splitter.

I also did a search and found this Lister-Pelter for sale at:

Currently at $66! There are several available, located in PA.

Enjoy!
