Permanent Magnet DC Motor Windmill

This is a 1/2 HP DC permanent magnet motor with a set of Art's Blades on it.It is on a 30 foot silo & the blade flew off in a windstorm the other night & landed on a steel roof 20 feet below without breaking. Wow they are stronger than they look !!

I have seen 7 amps at 13 volts , usually between 1 & 4.5 though.

I had both these tied in today with this one for the first time

Needle spent a fair bit of time past 30 amps today , finally -woohoo.

Now for a decent tower...

What part of the blade failed to

cause it to fly off?

100 kmh winds on a windmill with no furling & no Key in the key slot just a grub screw. It started slipping on the shaft & wore the 5/8" shaft down to about 1/2 inch. I have a few of these motors around so I put up another & used key stock in the key slot...

The blades actually struck the tower under the high winds & flew off but still remained usable.

I tryed to resize again , when I click on the pkoto in my photo uploads they both look a normal size but in the post they are huge...

Not sure what I am doing wrong?

They look fine here.

And the 'size' is good too. 45K and 25K.

There is something about 80% of the screen width... whatever... but they look the same 'inches' as most from this end.

"Arts" blades?

Length?

Mounting style?

Price?

How long you have flown them?

Are you happy with them?

I had a similar problem. When I resized and called it the same name it was still huge. Later when I looked it had changed size.

Maybe you need to try refresh after doing a change, I shall try that next time.

The pictures looks fine here today too.

The blades have an aproximate 8 foot diameter when assembled. They are much lighter than the wood ones I have carved & come with a hub that has a 4 bolt pattern or with individual ends you can mount to a steel disc.

I am happy with them so far , only had them for a week.

The only 2 things that caught my attention was the root is very narrow so they don't start quite as easy as the wooden ones & they are very flexable so you need good good tower clearance.

They are quite strong & for me much better then carving as my time is limited & they are reasonably priced. I will probably try a few more down the road , I want to try a set of Jerry's now.

I think I have 7 of these dc motors kicking around to put up on small towers

Are they a three blade set?

4 bolt on the hub?

So it's a hub plate that needs to be bolted to

another plate?

Please take a close up of the hub n blades if you get

a chance.
