WOW!!

If I could say that larger I would say like 3 times as large WOW!

"Edison Batterys"

If you find they work well and are from like 1930 or so I will trade you my house for them :)

1960 or so I'll trade car.

Just joking, or am I?

Where did you find such and are there more. I don't really know how good it would to be to have such batteries but I been dying to get some anyway just to test out myself.

Great find you lucky devil!!!

FWIW I have the original recipt for the bill from when my great-grandparents got electricity in the 1930's. Total 50 bucks, which included the electrician wiring everything (three light bulbs and two outlets).

It was a 36-volt system with a Wincharger and unspecified batteries.

I bet you could restore or save these batteries of yours; outlying areas of the telephone company might have a few or have the know-how. They used to use them to power the phone system when the mains power went down. I would ask Ma Bell for an older tech/maintenance guy, they might know.

Last year someone on here scanned in a owner's

manual for these batteries.seem's like you can bring them back to life even after year's of sitting discharged.I can't find it right now BUT i am sure

it is here on this board.

I did make a copy [print and cd].It will take a while to find that-remodeling nothing is where it is supposed to be.If i find it i will post it.

Read about one of these batteries 90 yr's old and still working.

I would try to put 9 cell in a bank and charge them up to about 16.5 volts. and then discharge them at 20 amps. until they show 6volts on the bank of 9 and then write down volts on each cell. that should weed out the weak ones.you may have to repeat this 2 or 3 times.(jlt inkom idaho}

Wow nice!

  1. amps normal charge and discharge rate
  2. hours capacity at normal charge/discharge rate

pretty awesome

it seems you cant kill these things , if something happens to them , just take them apart clean them and put in new solution.

they even recommend overcharging them

till they start frothing , at which time you should stop charging. lol

elvin-

Yes,

I've seen, copied, read and re-read

this many times

Thats were I got the info on

"A6H" cells

When I first got one cleaned up enough

to see the marking

"A6H"

I was pretty bummed-

Thinking only 6 Amp hours for all this work-

Then I researched this and found that it's

225 Ah

Thanks

:)

While researching these batteries-

"Edison's batteries were made from about 1903 to 1940."

?

I'm still trying to find the age of these

"A6H" Cells

They all have serial numbers and the sealing lids

on them have "McGraw Edison" on them,??????

Maybe the lids are an after market type thing

sold by the company that bought the "Edison Co."

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The crusty's on the tops are chipping off nicely, slowly

But it's an after work thing.

I haven't even gotten one all the way open yet to check

fluid level and add Disstilled water.

Maybe later or tomorrow.

l8r

THANKS

:)

Still researching-

I read something that makes me worry a bit-

Bruce s

posted in a post about niCads

"The one thing you'll not want to do it let them go below 1.01Vdc/cell. AT this point NiCds begin to reverse polarity internally and are subject to bursting if you try to recover them ( happen in our shop more than once)."

I was writing down all the serial numbers and what the voltage is

of each pack or each cell today and

I found some that are,

"reverse polarity",

I'm talking about a few hundreds, (-0.0#)

Am I going to have a few burstings of my own??????????????

That would make girlfriend very un-Happy,

heck, I can't even bring these into backyard, they are sitting,

hidden out back between my truck and fence.

I've sort of covered them up with a wood pile.

The things I get myself into trying to learn RE and build something useful.
