Totally off-topic, but funny!
« on: November 07, 2006, 10:22:21 PM »
A few weeks ago I participated in the Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Ride, which is a fundraiser for breast cancer research.  It's a nice little 50km charity ride with a police escort, and about 1,000 motorcycles took part.

My wife took this picture just after I returned home.  I was very visible amongst a sea of sports bikes, Harleys and such!

Photo caption: It takes a special kind of man to ride a CT90.

But...but...but I'm Australian!

I've always thought that those leathers looked rather like a Union Jack - maybe I should buy a Norton or a Triumph? ;-)

(They were cheap, though!)

BTH,

Such a proud chest can only belong to a steak-and-chips eating, crocodile-wrestling dinki di bronzed Anzac Aussie male. Though the milk crate at the back is not quite the correct "Mad Max" accessory!

BTH,

Captain America would indeed be proud. I know its not the norm, but it is 'legal' to not wear a helmet, when riding a motor-cycle, in my area, that is, Miami FL. USA. It seems that it was voted out aboot[:)]  5 years ago.

Bear in mind though, it is 'illegal' to wear a costume mask in public. Go figure... Im glad you posted an off-topic to your diary. It insipres me atleast. I have mastered the art of smoking salmon fish fillets(recently). I'd like to make a fun diary post as you did... perhaps I will....

Why is it that you can ride a motorcycle with no helmet, but it is the LAW that you have to wear a seatbelt?

Both of those are compulsory here in Australia, as is voting (yes, voting!)

If voting wasn't compulsory, we'd take you yanks to school about low-voter-turnout at election time! ;-)

Um, Captain Australia... perhaps voting should be mandatory in the U.S.A. along with outlawing totally missleading and absolutely absurd phone calls and tv adds from the various leading parties(if not in politics would be called lies/deciet/slander and end up in court)... but it is un-American, or so it would seem.

I bet you used less gas than most of the other bikers, and it was for a good cause(but why the police escort) seems like that would ruin a perfectly good time! ;-D  Gary D. PS I did/do  vote...

BT;

Is this the one you're having rebuilt? I'm sooo jealous.:--)

It'll be a real go getter once the cylinder is rebuilt.

You're not a distant cussin of Will Farrell are you? There's a striking resemblance to him in his current movie :--)

I'm all for the helmet. Gets down right chilly riding around here in 40F weather.

We offset the 49cc and Rebel 250 by buying HD helmets, which BTW has saved my skull from rocks, low flying birds and kids in school busses.

Kudoos for making the ride too hope it was a great turn out!!!

I've been grateful to my leathers on the few occasions that I've found myself sliding down the road at 70kph...

You'll be wanting to have a look over at http://www.dratv.com/ct70.html

Personally I wouldn't go beyond a 90cc motor for a CT70, just because of my experience with the chassis of the CT90.  It's nice and stable up to about 80kph/50mph, but not so good beyond it.  On a CT70 with those tiny wheels, well...

That said, a bloke I know did this to his Z50:

I get about 45km/litre, or about 100mpg.

The police escort is just what they seem to do these days, they do it for the winter blanket runs and Xmas toy runs too.

I hope that you all end up with an electoral result that achieves what you need.  It's a bit scary to watch US politics from my perspective, it seems almost as though you'll have to start running with a "government of national unity" or face another civil war soon (but then I'm looking from the outside, it's probably very different over there).

OK, I think I'll need to tell a story here:

In about 1973 (coincidentally the year I was born) my dad finally had to give up riding a horse on his farm, due to his bad back.  He bought a brand-new Honda CT90.

In April 2004 I was looking for a bike to ride to the Wintersun rally in Mildura (900km/560mi) away, to win myself acclaim and trophies.  I decided to borrow dad's CT90 (which had never been on the road), thoroughly service it, register it, and ride it there.  June arrived, and I did so:

http://users.bigpond.net.au/mike-oconnor/moto/Wintersun04/

...and won the trophies for "Longest Distance (male)" and "Longest Distance (under 250cc)".  I also won the slow race in the gymkhana events. ;-)

Anyway, after I gave dad his bike back I decided that I needed one of my own.  Lo and behold, one turned up a few months later in December 2004:  a genuine one-owner 1967 CT90K0 with 2,000 miles on the clock.  I drove 1,300km each way and paid $700 to make it mine.

I finally got it registered a few months ago:

http://www.otherpower.com/images/scimages/236/NewBike.jpg

On the way home from my parent's house in July (middle of winter, lamb-marking season) I passed throught Albury on Hard Rubbish Day.  I collected a truckload of bicycles for my Red Cross charity job, and this:

http://www.otherpower.com/images/scimages/236/ct90_2.jpg

This is the one I'm now rebuilding for my niece.  So far it's cost $150 in parts, and will need a $60 rebore and a new exhaust pipe to finish it off.

Nope!  With the exception of those plastic indicators, a set of street tyres and a carburettor overhaul kit, 100% original.

the old bikes are the best--they just keep on going and going..

heres my 1976 honda 175 enduro-stripped down..

its a great bike for off road use and hitting the beach--nice and low .. not like the new bikes-dam near need a step ladder to mount them..had a 1993 honda 250 dirt bike--didnt really care for it--to high up--wasnt really any good on the tight trails and mountain climbing--fell over to many times -feet coundnt reach the ground.

so im back to the trusty 175..

had a lot of fun with it over the years--didnt take it out this year--they closed up most of the trails to motorcycles--but allow 4 wheelers-they claim motorbikes tear up the trails --what a bunch of bs-every trail i ride on has two big ruts running down it from 4 wheelers...times have changed--cant say its always for the good..

well thats my gripe for the day................. :]

I think sometimes it looks even a bit more scary up close.  Where I'm at we had a former President campaigning for a guy in a coma in the primary election, where the political parties have votes to determine who will be slated in the general election. He won, and they put his son on the ticket for the general election.  The son won that one.  Who can understand what's really going on.  Somehow we seem to keep functioning from year to year though I'm not always sure how.  Of course we always have a few dead people that vote too.  Rich

i grew up with a Honda CL90 , but it looked the same! i think it was a CL anyway i may be wrong though

same muffler , same red frame, but ours had another seat in the back, i think we had the rack also , but never put it on..

to fill it up with gas (petrol), you lift the front seat up , right ?

It was probably a CT90, the same as this one.  Honda used to sell a "buddy seat" that you could mount on the back:
