Fiji Trip Status Update (04 Dec 2006)
« on: December 04, 2006, 02:32:11 AM »
You know, this is one of those times when military/political people are irritating to me - don't they realise that all this coup business could scuttle our plans? ;-)

Realistically, Fiji has had 3 coups since 1987 and in all of them foreigners have been left alone.  Still, I'm not keen on the idea of going someplace while it's in that much of a state of political turmoil.  3 months is a long time in politics though, so we'll make a final decision a bit closer to the date.

One possible problem is that Vanuabalavu is the home island of the Fijian Prime Minister (Quarase).  I can just see it happening that we'd arrive there at about the same time he goes home for a visit, and the Fijian military cancels all flights to Vanuabalavu indefinitely so as to effectively place him under house arrest!

Ah well, you can either laugh or cry about it.  I choose to laugh. ;-)

I had a Fiji stop on my return ticket from OZ. When the time came to leave OZ, they had a coup in Fiji. The airlines refused to take me there. Best of luck on your travel arrangements. I have yet to see Fiji.

BT Humble;

See my reply to Jacques

   These laptops are taking on a life of their own:--0

I am in the process of packing them for slow boat shipment.This way they  should arrive after the coup is done and everything is back to afternoon tea.

I'll send a picture of the lot once I have a chance to set them all up .

Cheers!

BE safe!!

That's splendid, thanks Bruce.

And I'll be safe for the next few weeks provided I remember to lift with my knees (I'm moving house, lugging furniture).
