Projects by magnet size
« on: December 22, 2006, 03:00:58 AM »
As I have re-designed my windmill project for the 132-1/2 time, I had an interesting thought today. I now have 12 magnets 1.25" x .562" x .125" as well as 36 .25 X .25 cylinders.

I am curious about what projects people have completed, providing useable output (12v batt charging being my baseline), with what magnet sizes. Details would be nice. I would like to put the mags on hand to use doing something. I am thinking the 36 cylinders are going to be used toward a motor conversion in the next week or so.

Might work, might not.

If anyone would like to reply to this with a mag size, design notes, and actual output.... it might provide for an interesting collection of information.

I tried to make a genny from a box window fan using ¼x¼ cylinders  like you have. I believe that it would have actually worked if I had used many more turns of thinner wire. I still have all the parts and will revisit it in the near future.

I might have a good motor for a conversion using the 1/4" magnets.  It's the single phase motor from my 1/2hp water pump which gave up the ghost on me.  I'm going to be digging into it some time soon to find out whether it was the pump that grenaded or the motor.  If it's the pump, you can have the motor for cost of shipping from 56754 if you want it.

I'll have more info probably tomorrow, maybe Monday as to what the ratings on the nameplate are and whether it's the pump that's toast.  From memory the ratings I know are:

110VAC 60Hz 1/2hp 1ph

No idea on the RPM yet.
