Batteries Galore

Hi all.

Long time since i did a diary but today i did somthing worthy of a diary enetery.  For those who dont know me, my name is Jonathan I live in Cornwall, i am at collage studying renewable technologies at degree level.  

More about today, after getting in contact with a local company called batteries unlimited owned by my friend Jan.  I was able to get some batteries for my parents off grid system i am in the process of building.  The ones i got for my parents system are 150ah 2v trident cells, good for 15 years easy.  I also finally got the 130ah SLA batteries I have for sale at £50 each or 4 for £160.  

After loading my car with 8 of the wet cells and 10 of the SLA it was maxed out as far as the suspension goes, adding the battery rack on the trailer only helped to lower it further.  After a 45 minute drive back to my place I took some snaps, see below.

Well That was my day.

That car sure is resistent! If you keep doing that It will kill it. For the batteies thats a good price man. I wish I could find batteries that cheap here in Lubbock, TX.

Never mind the batteries, I'd like the car.  I had about 5 of those over the years, never occurred to me they wouldn't always be around.

My poor car, not as bad as that other one :S.  Taking those 8 wet cells back to Kent Saturday morning still a lot of weight in the car.  Had planed to get some of the SLA back as well but the car just inst up to it.  Luckily my new van is back in Kent so next time i will be able to do it.  

If any one in the UK needs any of the SLA batteries like i said they are for sale at £50 each and 4 for £160 + P+P.  But I will be making my way up to Stratford in the next couple of weeks from Cornwall and back down to Kent so anybody along that route let me know .

Brings a tear to my eye, seeing a Bug with running boards, and probably the heat tubes, still in tact.

It's -15C here, with a nice layer of salt on the roads.  :-(

About my only fond memory of my own VW beetle (1966 1300cc "Deluxe") was the ease of front seat removal for carrying large objects.  I've personally carried washing machines and rebuilt 6-cylinder engines, my dad's cousin once loaded a 44 gallon (200 litre) drum of petrol in place of the passenger seat![1]

He also once carried a bundle of 6m (20') lengths of pipe, slung underneath the car and lashed to the bumpers.  He reckoned it was OK, but you had to be careful driving through culverts. ;-)
