scored a treadmill motor

i just got a DC treadmill motor, Finally !

specs

permanent magnet motor

DC 90V : 11.4 A : 2600rpm : 1.5 HP

it weighs a ton with the flywheel it has on there.

i am wiped out , exhausted , it seemed like i was struggling with it for hours.

also got the treadmill controller board and the display , and two very cool lead screws that raised and lowered the treadmill .

junk picking is exhausting!!

Congratulations!  And yes, some acqusitions can be hard won when diving a la dumptster.  But I feel it makes the world a better place, recycle is not a four letter word.  Although my wife wishes that I would go out in disguise on some weekends.

Are you going to spin this thing for power?  Keep us posted.

I dont know what i'm gonna do with it , but when i saw it was DC i flipped out :-)

there is still the bearings from the treadmill treads that i left there and a transformer

i may go back lol

great find there willib...

i found one simuler to yours and hooked it up to a exersize bike..

works great when theres no wind..i jump started the motorhome a few times with it..

only took about 6-8 minutes of pedaling to start it..

i replaced the heavy flywheel on the exersize bike with a regular bike wheel to cut down on weight...used a flat auto belt from wheel to pully on treadmill motor..

 i still have a 2,5 hp treadmill motor to mess with..

 whats your plans for yours?...........................later.

Sounds like a great find. What I have found is, if the motor has 2600 ball park rpm

It a great motor to fly. If its one of those 4000 to 6000 rpm motors not so good.

I'd put a 4ft blade on it and fly it. I've seen over 400 watts from a simular motor.

Keep in mind an SW-403 sells for aound $500 to $600 and you got your 400 watt (maybe) machine for free.

i just hooked up the motor to the MiniGenII which is hooked to the excercize bike.

it seems to be a very efficient motor.

when i get the gen up to 19 Volts , the flywheel and the caps keep it going for a minute and fifty seconds

 Did you put a meter on the beast yet?

 Some treadmills had problems with brush holders melting when heavyweights got on.However that can be fixed but some dont bother and toss em.

 Nice freebee though.

 You have given me a plan for the axial alt by using the deck belt shafts from a mill i got for free also.

the motor as a generator seems to output a decent voltage at low RPM , i have no way to measure the RPM of the motor , but it did come with a spiral tach encoder device , the IR emitter / reciever is on the controller board.

I think you can calculate the rpms by the motor ratings.

 You have roughly 1:30 volt vs rpm so at 30 rpms you would get 1v.

 That seems how my treadmill motor reacts.

i did the ole' turn and count method

31 revs in ten seconds = 3.1 revs / sec.

times 60 seconds per min ~ 186 rpm

5 Volts DC  at 186 RPM
