Wind Project

Slowly collecting parts. In the picture I have the blades, hub, and magnets from the source in Texas. Also shown are the flat metal parts I bought from Ed (excellent quality!). Blades are 6'8" assembled. I have 24 N42 neos and a spool of #14 to wind coils. As soon as I finish this semester of college in 2 weeks I am going to be busy.

In the back near the wall are the 2 batteries and C60 charge controller that are on my HF solar panels. They supply power to the corn stove and a few lights.

8 inch. Thinking 42 turns for the coils.

  Mary,  Nice work!   I just purchased a set of those blades myself to see how they'll work out.  I plan to refurbish the original 500 watt kit in a couple weeks using them... should be interesting!  


  Looks like your well on your way!   Be careful though... the AE bug is very addicting !

Nice job Mary - welcome to the addiction. Also glad to see someone else burns corn. As they say a thousand years to make oil, twenty years to make a tree, but new corn can be had next year.


My annual total corn use this year 10,400 Lbs - just about $600.

 I have a set of the 8 foot blades from texas as well , they seem sturdy-can't wait to get them in the wind.

I have been using them 8.5 ft. They work very nicely. the hub needed modifications though.



They just need a bit of sanding in the edges and thats about it.

Mary , you should wind a test coil after you have assembled the rotors .

no need to epoxy the mags to the rotors yet , they wont go anywhere

this is the last coil i wound

i used resin as i wound it to hold it in place

I was planning on it :-) But the design is the one from Ed's page and 40-44 turns is what is suggested on a 6 foot machine. I will have 6'10" so it is going to be close. Only change I am really doing is  1x2x.5 rectangular N42's instead of the N35 wedges.
