10-footer progress report
« on: June 17, 2007, 10:57:51 PM »
I put in some time on my mill this weekend so I thought I'd post some pics...

I'd carved the blades some time ago so I started work on the hub...

My spare blade is painted white. I'll go with that when the hub is finished. (I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could spin a 10' blade on my workbench!)

I set the turbine aside and started on the control system. Here's the rectifier panel; I've labeled the parts...

a) 200 amp 3-phase rectifier

b) heat sink

c) thermal switch behind some cork tape

d) 24 volt fan

e) two shorting switches for the inputs

f) connection block for the inputs

g) connection block for the outputs

h) MPPT booster circuit

I still have to wire the parts together but that's a start.

I'm still in the "thinking stage" with how to mount the parts for dump panel ..

... I'm thinking of mounting half the resistors on each side of the aluminum plate and maybe getting a few more to give me more dump capacity at lower voltages.

Elt,

Nice short switches.  Are those the "key" type?  Great Idea!

By the way, nice boost converter as well.  I was able to learn a lot by following your boost/mppt threads.

Thank you. For the most part, though, I'm just trying to put in practice the info that experts here have shared.

Very nice setup man. If you mount the dump loads vertically hot air inside of them will go up pulling fresh air from the bottom.  Thats another reason why they make them hollow. Sure, the fans are a plus.
