Stator Ring

 Its a hair over 33 1/4in diameter with 108 1/2in slots.Made with 3 sheets of 5/8 particle board laminated together just to see how it would work.

 At first the pboard would break up(was afraid of that) and was about to throw it or use it for a hula hoop.Then i decided to coat it with resin and was amazed how it soaked in and problem solved.

 60 poles would have matched the coils better but trying to save on magsLOL

 Just goofin around and havin fun with too much time on my hands.

 Heres a pic of a partial 2ph winding.

nice idea..you could put some metal strapping  on the outside of the ring .. it would attract more of the magnetic flux down to the coils..

and of course it would cause some problems as well..

what about a plywood rotor? -- with metal strapping on the ring  to mount the mags to...should make for a good low speed high output alt....

Hi Hiker

 The current plan is for rusted wire or coated with a steel band around that.

 Still need to figure that out.Mags grab pretty good to any steel on the other side.

couple of days ago i was on a moutain road--pulled over to check my oil..

heard a few dogs barking running down the road towards me--no big deal..

they all ran past me--first dog was a big old black bear  :}

By gee Vawtman, you got a lot on your plate there, the time on your hands will pretty soon evaporate into that monster turbine.

I'm currently playing with this, and thought I was up to my armpits in alligators, but your way ahead of me on the difficulty scale. Keep it up can't wait to see how you do.

 Could you descibe a bit.Is there a wire ring behind the coils?

Well it broke today when the wife was moving my re stuff around.

 Its not her fault she just didnt know how fragile some things are that i make.

 So no hulahoop either.

 I didnt like it anyway at only 54pls.

 Back to the drawing board thinkin something Seeleyish with steel and wire.

Sad news indeed. Shame it never made it to the test stage.

My seeley thing will probably be scrapped and a larger 30pole one built. Just gotta find a good way to create the stator. It will be wire backed, and probably 22"rotor drum (at least this part is easy now)

Hopefully Willib is doing the power curves for it, but it didn't suit my requirements. It may suit someone else with a 10' prop, but I want to build a one for about 14'..... so we both have new projects to work on.

If you stumble on a good idea for the stator, make lots of noise.

 You cant say were not having fun though.Im not giving up just thinkin harder.The rotor is the easy part.When the stator is done one could run a wave winding through it and test that at certain rpms.Like Zubbly tought me with regular motors.
