Ben's Solar Radio Project (Free)
« on: July 22, 2007, 09:41:56 AM »
I have made a solar radio from an old solar LED garden light and small radio.

There are detailed instructions on the Instructables site, I tried to paste them here but it didn't work unfortunately.

It cost me nothing to make and should last years, or until the NiMh battery's die.

I had previously been listening to the radio through my mains powered stereo, which shocked me at how much power it used - 40 watts,(10w on standby!) just to listen to the radio.....

Makes a nice quick project if you have the parts lying around :)

Ben.

Yes, Ben, very nice!

I would be really interested to hear in mid-winter whether you can get enough useful listening hours out of it each day.  Of course then you'll wire it up to one of your battery-charging half-Watt turbines to catch the wind instead, won't you!  B^>
