My lathe

Just thought I would post some pictures of my lathe that was made in the late 1800's





And  a picture of the patent date

The original overhead clutch and drive train are in the box.

Very nice machine, but all those exposed drivtrain gears are seriouly dangerous.


I would cover them ASAP.


Trust me, it well get you off gaurd in a split second.

Beautiful old piece!  Our 'big' lathe is of similar vintage...

What make is yours?  

Ours does have a cover over the gears (but not the flat belt).  Stuff like that (open gears/belts) doesn't bother me too much - I think if you own the tool and know whats going on and be careful with it all youll probably be fine!.

Cars are seriously dangerous... I'd never get in one ;-)

That's a beautiful piece of equipment. They don't make them like they used to. Take care of it and it will last forever.

Yes they should make a law that all Model T and Model A have seatbelts, airbags, and ejection seats. LOL

WOW, that's a great looking lathe.

Wish I had a great old one like that, my new fangled one is fine, but something about the classics I just love so much better!

The lathe was made by the Barnes co. Rockford Illinois. I still have the original legs, they look just like the ones in Dan B's latest post. Cant tell if Dans lathe has the double feed screw. Great running old machine. Well cared for over the years.
