if you are using a battery that even has a CCA rating for RE you are using the wrong battery.

Yep your right I 've used a lot of car batteries .They should be configured as large capacitors if they are in good enough shape to come up fast .

    Yes you are right. I was mainly interested in the effect of temperature on the capacity.

    I also posted this as I have just created an account after being an observer here for almost two years. So I wanted to post something to try this out. Next comes a few pictures and I resized these in Adobe photo shop so I hope I do this right.

    These are my batteries-800 amp rating for eight hours. 8 volts each, 3 in series for 24 volts, five groups for a total of 15 batteries. They are 10 years old,scrounged for the price of hauling. They are sitting on the remnants of the metal of an above ground pool.




    Two 3624 Xantrex inverters stacked to give me 220 volts.





     Two mills from Hugh Piggot's Workshop. Both the same 24 magnets(2x1x1/2),dual rotor,3 phase,nine coils,75 turns two in hand #17 awg.





My towers are 40' tall ,3" scrap seamless boilertubing. The cable is individual strands unraveled from an industrail 50 ton hoist cable also free.

Last but not least is my current project-Geo metro electric conversion.

your photos have no file extensions on the end of the file name. in the future all images need to have a file name that ends in .jpg or .gif or .png or something like that just anything except .bmp we don't like those because they are usually to large even a small one is huge for what it shows. if you don't have a file extension on the end of your file names they don't work properly here and it makes it hard on the editors.

The car is a 1994 geo metro I found on a budget lot for $1500 in Billings, Montana while there on vacation last summer. It was nice to find a rust free, road ready car with a clean title. My wife graciously drove it back to Michigan.

I have ten good 12 volt deep cycle batteries 1 1/2 years old from a former re system. Four will be in front, four in the gas tank space and two in the spare tire compartment.

    My work commute is ten miles round trip on a level road so I don't need a lot of range.


    I did all the machining on the transmission plate, flywheel adapter hub, spacer, motor mount and retained the clutch-pressure plate. This motor is long and required shortening the shaft by an inch and some fab work on the unibody to get it to fit.

    The wiring is figured out and I have removed all the original engine management wiring.

    Spring is my completion date goal.
