Furling animation
« on: January 07, 2008, 06:49:56 PM »
I have made a small animation showing the furling action of the elliptical furling system, viewed from various angles. Hopefully it helps to demistify it for those who have trouble understanding its operation.

Warning dial-up users, it's an 8 MB .avi file :

It is presented 'as is' to the community. I hope it's of use to anyone.

Wow, thanks for taking the time to do that. I puzzled over furling for quite a bit and finnally figured it out and your animation was what I needed to confirm it. Again, thank you.

Nice.

Would be good to have a shot from the frame of reference of the generator, showing how the tail moves aside and "takes the wind with it".

Nice.  I couldn't do anything like that and so hardly dare offer a criticism, but I found the top view the clearest and would prefer that this was first.  Just personal choice.

Excellent animation all the same, and should help a lot.

Peter,

Nicely done.  Try explaining this to someone on the grouound without using your hands, or a pad of paper...

It only needs a "foooooosh" of the blades.  You can add sound effects?

My guess is Solidworks.

I got to play with that for a week, then had to go back to AutoCAD...

No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.

Steven,

You're the winner!

;)

Am transitioning from AutoCAD to SolidWorks and the furling mechanism was a nice challenge to model, to learn the new software. The animation was piece of cake after the model was finished.
