BMN Gray water, new web site, wind workshop

Good morning

Dang it, tomorrow is my birthday. I'm not ready. It's just a day right? I'm not really a year older tomorrow than I am today. I keep expecting to look in the mirror and see my hair turn gray over night. Oh well, what can I do? Thanks for the card Larry, it is much appreciated. What kind of mileage does the invisible car get, provided I can find it? It better run on invisible biodiesel, dude. You can be sure that as soon as I find it, I'll be inspecting the car very closely. I have to know you people are paying attention to my renewable energy messages.

Speaking of renewable energies, we're receiving encouraging feedback from people in the community concerning the wind power workshops. I have a feeling this is going to be a big hit here in New Mexico. We haven't got the actual shop setup yet. People wanting to get started are chomping at the bit. I'm a little apprehensive, about the college's ability to keep up with us. I think Axial Flux Wind Turbines will give Luna Community College's Renewable Energy program credibility. The school needs to step up financially and they need to do it quickly. This isn't something the college is known for doing. So we'll see, what happens, when the semester begins in the next few weeks. The first thing we need is heat in the workshop, then we need equipment. Kevin is already working on much of the needed gear and supplies, I will spend more time there helping him figure out what we need and what we can get by with. I guess I too am chomping the bit. This is very exciting. As soon as I hear that Kevin has returned, we'll get the wind turbine we built in Colorado, build a stand for it and get it reassembled in the Renewable Energy building's shop.

Meanwhile, Adam is working on http://outfitnm.com and has it back up again, this time using Joomla with a community forum page built-in. Right now it is just a shell. Adam was installing components while we chatted on-line last night. I have never been a guy who likes to talk on phones, I still can't get into text messaging. It may be that the keypad and display are too small. I don't know, but what I do like is text messaging over the Internet. I asked Adam if he would install Ajax, a live chat forum on my pages. With Ajax, users will be able to text back and forth with other users on the forum. This is a feature which Google has which we have been using often. A message window pops up if other Google users are on-line. Very handy. First I'll need to fine tune the components Adam installed already. I tried this morning to move my old http://outfitnm.com/Images/ folder back where it was, because all over the Internet I have little boxes boxes where my images ought to be.

I'll work on the images issues today, also I have a wireless Internet installation to do this afternoon. I hope to find Kevin and check out the shop too. Plus a bit of grocery shopping is in order for the house. For the rest of the morning I need to figure out why our French Drain on our gray water isn't flowing. I suppose it is the acme of foolishness to think it hasn't anything to do with the fact that while doing the ditch work for our new septic tank I barely covered the gray water drain with soil. No doubt it is frozen. Yesterday I built a bonfire on over a portion of the drain where it is closest to the surface, but it didn't help. Actually, I think the fire wasn't placed over the pipe properly. It was gusty yesterday and i had a heck of a time keeping the fire going. I even set the firewood in a pattern so that the wind would keep the fire burning down the elongated bonfire. Luckily I have lots of glycerol the by-product of making biodiesel. Once I had good coals I poured glycerol on the firewood. Yeah man the methanol component of glycerol got the fire going. My main issue is of course the use of firewood which we don't have enough of as it is. I felt bad, putting it on a bonfire that had a limited probability of defrosting the gray water line. Since I was on house husband duty yesterday I rigged a PVC pipe to the washing machine for a drain. I managed to wash two loads this way. Now, however it is time for a shower, and Mr. Fixit needs a new plan to drain the tub.

Okally dokally,

See ya's tomorrow

What kind of gear are you looking for to set up the shop?

Folks around here will be quick with links to good deals if they know what your looking for.

Thanks man

I hadn't thought of this.

 So yeah

For the college's shop:

220volt MIG welder

planner

Portable and stationary band saw

hand tools: planes, draw knives, clamps, ...

lockable tool bin. (it's a school) We will build this as well as our steel welding work bench.

Vice, anvil

Oxy-Ace torch set.

Small lathe and milling machine.

Belt sanders stationary and portable

About all they have is a drill press.

On the bright side the college has complete wood and metal working shops on campus.

Plus Kevin ordered the steel. We are getting the metal shop to cut most of the pieces so we can get started fairly soon.

We need a supplier for winding wire

Axial hubs have some kind of snag.

100 magnets are here

Looking good so far.
