In case anyone is interested... I just did a little write-up on how those of us hacking code can help save the kWh as well:

dog;

Well, every little bit helps. Say, for instance, just 5 or 6 million computers running 8 hours daily saving a few % will add up. There are many many more that run daily but its a for instance.

This kind of attitude [its too extreme, too hard, etc] is part of the problem and we try for solutions here.

I might ask "What do you do daily to be part of the solution rather than just another part of the problem?" Some drive an SUV with just the driver to a green power seminar. Seen that one myself.

The old ways simply lead the wrong way. It will take hard changes to make it better for all.

Just another angle.

Damon;

   Thanks for the link:-)

Was easy reading with sound ideas. Some of which works in the Windows world too like lower power idling, monitor turn off and opossed to screen-savers.

Cheers

Hi,

Yes, lots of it should work on any OS.  I just happen to like and use *nix OSes more for production work.

I like it.  And for most folks there will be no discernible loss of performance.  Better yet, for many of the applications I run, performance would actually increase a touch...
