400w inverter Buzzing
« on: February 06, 2008, 11:17:31 PM »
I have a 400w inverter and when plugging in my Computer It Buzzes. The inverter is not a true sine wave and that would be the way to go. BUT I already have the inverter.

What I am asking is Can i install a Large size Capacitor in line after the inverter and before the house power?? Will this work?

It will probably kill the inverter.

Which item buzzes? The inverter, the pc, or both? The inverter buzzing is normal. If the PC PSU is buzzing, its not, so I wouldn't continue using it on the PC.

Inverters of all kinds I've come across all buzz, some more than others, and some buzz more with a higher load.

The computer is buzzing. So will i fry the inverter if i hook a Cap after it or will this not work? Just trying to save from buying another inverter (true Sine). That would be the way to go BUT.

You'll likely destroy something fast if you put anything more than a tiny suppressor cap on the AC inverter output.  A big capacitor is more or less a short circuit to AC.  A little suppressor cap probably won't make any difference and may die.

What you want is a low pass filter with a high input impedance on the inverter side.

a "T" pole utilizing 2 inductors and one capacitor is worth trying. at least it can't fry the inverter.

Start with something like 1uf and 2x 3-10mh. you can also connect another cap on the computer side. just make sure you don't connect it backwards.

Is the buzzing from the speaker or the power supply?

Hi,

I had the same problem with my 2.5kw inverter feeding my computer..the inverter was a modified sine wave. I solved the problem by securing a 1 to 1 transformer for 110v ac.

the pc and especially the monitor settled right down and gave me no more worries..Its been going like that for about two years.

cheers
